Job summary

Johnson Excavation Inc. in the Santa Ynez Valley is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator who leads by example and prioritizes safety and productivity on grading projects.

You will operate excavators, dozers, graders, and loaders, read plans, and support crew in a fast-paced field environment. A CA driver’s license with a clean record is required, and a Class A CDL is highly preferred for a higher starting wage.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience operating heavy equipment (excavators, dozers, graders, loaders, compactors).
• Ability to read grading plans, blueprints, and project specs.
• Foreman experience preferred for leadership.
• Willingness to perform manual labor in a working leadership role.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Must have valid California driver’s license with a clean record.
• California Class A CDL is highly preferred and qualifies for a higher starting wage.

Job description

Johnson Excavation Inc. is a multi-generational licensed and insured General Engineering Contractor in the Santa Ynez Valley. We are seeking an experienced, motivated Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, leads by example, and is willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done safely and efficiently.

Qualifications.

• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience operating a wide variety of heavy equipment, including excavators, dozers, graders, loaders, compactors, and other construction equipment.
• Ability to accurately read and interpret grading plans, blueprints, and project specifications.
• Previous experience as a Foreman leading and managing a field crew would be ideal.
• Willingness to perform manual labor when needed, this is a working leadership position.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Positive attitude and ability to work well as part of a team.
• Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and productivity.
• Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record required.
• California Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) is highly preferred and qualifies for a higher starting wage.

Compensation:

Starting wage will be based on experience and demonstrated ability. All applicants will complete a hands-on skills assessment to determine their starting wage.
