Summary

This position involves operating various construction equipment such as dump trucks, bulldozers, front-end loaders, graders, tracked excavators, or water trucks to excavate, move, grade, and load earth into haul trucks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Learn and follow safety regulations.
• Take actions to avoid hazards or obstructions, including utility lines, other equipment, workers, or falling objects.
• Locate underground services like pipes or wires before starting work.
• Monitor operations to ensure health and safety standards are met.
• Control attachments (blades, buckets, scrapers, swing booms) by adjusting hand wheels and pedals.
• Start engines and operate machines (bulldozers, trench excavators, graders, backhoes).
• Coordinate machine actions with other activities and respond to signals from crew members.
• Load and move materials using trucks, crawlers, cranes, shovels, or graders.
• Check fuel supplies to ensure adequate availability.
• Drive and maneuver equipment to level or remove earth as needed.

Requirements

• Adhere to safety regulations and instructions.
• Judge distances and slopes accurately.
• Make decisions based on standards.
• Ability to stoop, bend, crouch, and use hands, arms, legs fully.
• Good vision and hearing (corrected if necessary).
• Frequently lift up to 80 pounds; carry objects weighing 50 pounds or less.
• Work in dusty or dirty environments.
• Pass equipment operator qualification testing/observation.

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma preferred.
