The City of Indianapolis and Marion County is seeking a skilled street sweeper driver responsible for operating various maintenance equipment to clean city streets. Ideal candidates will have a High School diploma, valid CDL licenses, and the ability to perform light maintenance. This role offers an opportunity to engage in essential street and park maintenance tasks while ensuring a clean environment.
Position is responsible for driving street sweeper equipment to clean and maintain City streets. Performs daily pre-operational and post-operational inspections of equipment, including washing and cleaning prior to the end of shift.
Drives street sweeping equipment to remove trash, debris, and other contaminants from streets. Fills, cleans, and drains water tanks as needed. Operates controls to activate rotary brushes and water spray for debris and dust collection. Dumps collected refuse into appropriate disposal containers.
Performs minor maintenance on street sweepers, such as cleaning vehicles and checking fluids and tire pressures. Sweeps various park facilities and may drive dump trucks, pick up trash, and perform grounds maintenance tasks.
Removes ground trash and debris, and transports trucks with trailers, work crews, and equipment. May be required to operate snow plows to clear streets of snow.
Operates with a reasonable skill level various equipment including snow plows, salt spreaders, dump beds, and other tools. Performs additional duties such as pothole repair, patching, concrete repair, crack sealing, alley maintenance, and hauling as assigned.
Requires a High School diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of street maintenance equipment and their use. Ability to operate street sweepers, dump trucks, pickup trucks, snow plows, and basic hand tools. Must be able to determine your location relative to surroundings and operate equipment safely.
Preferred qualifications include a valid Class "A" CDL with Tanker endorsement. A valid Class "B" CDL is required, with a requirement to obtain Class "A" within six months. Must pass a pre-employment driving physical. Ability to lift and carry items weighing 25 pounds or more.
Follows supervisor instructions and safety regulations to complete tasks. Decisions involve determining the proper sequence of steps and minor variations from established methods.
