Job summary

The Tepa Companies in Colorado Springs, CO, are seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator with extensive experience to operate excavators, loaders, graders, scrapers, and rollers on construction sites. You will inspect equipment daily, load materials, interpret staking and grade control data, and coordinate with geotechnical engineers as required.

Travel to project sites in surrounding states may be required; you must pass drug screening and a background check.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years' experience operating construction equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and plans.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and OSHA standards on site.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with superintendents, operators and laborers.
  • Willingness to travel as required and pass drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Operates excavators, loaders, graders, scrapers, skid loaders and rollers safely.
  • Performs daily equipment inspections and maintenance with proper documentation.
  • Reads plans and staking data, interprets grade control and utilities.
  • Controls traffic and signals equipment for alignment and movement.
  • Performs general labor and site preparation tasks as needed.

As an Operator, you may perform Laborer job functions based on client and project requirements.Job Functions:Operates various construction equipment safely and efficiently, including excavators, loaders, forklifts, graders, scrapers, skid loaders, and rollers.Performs daily equipment inspection and maintenance requirements with proper documentation in compliance with company policies.Offloads or loadouts of construction materials and/or debris.Reads and interprets surveying staking about grade control and utilities.Interacts with geotechnical engineers and interpret testing results.Performs other duties associated with the operation and maintenance of equipment.Identifies and operates hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, saws, power drills, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments.Cleans and prepares construction sites to eliminate possible hazards, including rubble and debris.Reads and interprets plans, instructions, and specifications.Controls passing traffic.Signals Equipment Operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and equipment adjustment.Identifies and follows safe working procedures.Identifies and stops unsafe work practices that present imminent danger to others.Performs other physical labor and responsibilities as assigned, including digging ditches and trenches, backfills excavations, sealing structural components, measuring and recording areas, unloading and identifying materials, assembling and erects equipment including scaffolding, pours concrete, and setting braces to support the sides of excavations.WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR10+ years’ experience operating construction equipment, including: excavators, loaders, graders, scrapers, skid loaders, and rollersKnowledge of use of power and hand tools, materials, and equipment used on construction sitesKnowledge of excavation and backfilling methods, practices and proceduresKnowledge of safety practices and procedures specific to labor work, including OSHA standardsMust be able to communicate clearly with Superintendents, Equipment Operators, Laborers and all other personnel on siteMust be able to read and understand construction drawingsListen to and understand information and direction verballyListen to and understand information and direction in writingDemonstrate willingness to take on job challengesDemonstrate energy and stamina to accomplish work tasksDemonstrate reliability, responsibility, and dependabilityDemonstrate careful attention to detail and thoroughnessAbility to work with crew membersAbility to travel as requiredValid driver’s licenseAbility to pass a drug screen and back ground check in compliance with federal regulationEqual Opportunity Employer/Veterans/DisabledSalary Range:$65,369.21 - $79,959.42
