As a Heavy Equipment Operator Apprentice , you will receive structured on-the-job training to develop the skills to operate heavy equipment in a quarry or aggregate production environment. Under the supervision of experienced operators, you will gain valuable experience in equipment operation, safety procedures, and site operations.

  • Assist experienced operators with daily tasks at quarry and aggregate production sites.
  • Learn to safely operate various types of heavy equipment, such as haul trucks, loaders, dozers, and excavators.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and immediately report any hazards.
  • Participate in classroom training modules covering quarry operations, safety procedures, and equipment operation.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections, pre-operational checks, and basic maintenance tasks.
  • Adhere to project schedules and work instructions to support production and material handling.
  • Work in various weather conditions and challenging terrains while maintaining high safety and performance standards.

Skills You’ll Need

  • Physical ability to perform heavy labor, including lifting, climbing, and standing for long periods.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Interest in quarry operations and heavy equipment operation.

Health & Benefits. This position is covered by the Local 156 collective bargaining agreement. Full benefits package including medical, vision, dental, prescription drug, mental health, pension, retiree benefits, paid holidays and paid vacation.

Compensation. The salary is prescribed by the applicable Local 156 collective bargaining agreement. Candidates will be placed according to the union contract salary rate of $25.77
