Job description

Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator

Location: Charlotte, NC or Greenville, SC
Pay Rate: $25–$27/hour – 50-55 hour weeks
Overview:A well-established underground electrical and communications utility contractor, is seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Operators to support projects in the Charlotte or Greenville areas. Operators will primarily run mid-sized excavators in utility environments, often working around existing infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy equipment (primarily mid-size excavators) in a safe and efficient manner
  • Excavate trenches and prepare sites for underground utility installation
  • Perform digs near existing utilities with precision and caution
  • Conduct pre-operation inspections and routine equipment maintenance
  • Follow site-specific safety protocols and procedures
  • Assist crews with job site preparation and clean-up as needed
  • Collaborate with site foremen and project managers to maintain productivity and job timelines
  • Read and interpret site plans or instructions from supervisors

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating excavators, preferably in underground utility construction
  • Comfortable working around live utilities and in tight dig zones
  • Knowledge of trenching standards, soil types, and safety procedures
  • Ability to follow direction, work as part of a team, and adapt to changing site conditions
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred but not required
  • Must reside in or be willing to travel to the Charlotte or Greenville areas
