Job summary

American Iron & Metal (AIM) in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to safely run heavy machinery and support fast-paced operations. You will use magnets, grapples, and other attachments to move metal materials and feed processing equipment.

Requirements include operator certification or proven experience, 1+ year in heavy industrial equipment operation, and strict adherence to crane and material-handling safety protocols. Outdoor work in a metallic recycling environment is expected.

Qualifications

• Operator certification and/or proven equipment‑operator experience.
• At least 1 year of heavy industrial equipment‑operation experience.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately position and handle metal materials.
• Solid understanding of safety protocols for crane operation and material handling.
• Comfortable using crane attachments such as magnets and grapples.
• Able to work outdoors in a heavy industrial environment, with familiarity in metal‑recycling processes being a plus.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate heavy equipment to lift, move, and position metal materials.
• Use attachments (magnets, grapples) to transport materials and place them in designated areas or processing equipment.
• Operate front end loaders, sheer crane, material handlers and other assigned equipment.
• Load and unload trucks/containers while ensuring secure, balanced loads.
• Perform equipment inspections and basic maintenance before and after use.
• Support yard operations by handling general maintenance, assisting the rail team, and completing cleanup duties during downtime.
