Job summary

B&F Contracting in Phoenix, AZ seeks an experienced heavy equipment operator to safely operate trench excavators, backhoes and loaders on underground utility projects.

You will locate underground services, set shoring, perform trenching and backfill, and maintain equipment while adhering to OSHA safety standards and AZ blue stake rules.

Must have 3+ years of field experience and be able to work nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years’ experience operating wet or dry utility heavy equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge to install sewer, water, storm drain, and dry utility conduit.
  • Experience in underground utilities or heavy civil construction.
  • Understanding of construction safety and OSHA requirements.
  • Ability to follow traffic laws and operate heavy equipment.
  • Work outdoors in Arizona heat.
  • Good listening and comprehension skills; follows instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment for underground utility projects.
  • Avoid hazards or obstructions (utilities, other equipment, workers, objects).
  • Locate underground services prior to starting work.
  • Understand proper backfill requirements.
  • Perform trench excavation and backfill safely.
  • Set and pull shield shoring and trench boxes per OSHA practices.
  • Change buckets/attachments safely and timely.
  • Calculate and set grades and elevations.
  • Monitor operations to meet health and safety standards.
  • Prepare and maintain equipment for daily operations (fuel, grease).
  • Adhere to B&F Code of Conduct.

Job Summary

Responsible for operating and maintaining various heavy equipment, including but not limited to trench excavators, backhoes, and loaders in a safe expeditious manner in accordance with OSHA safe practices.

Responsibilities
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment for underground utility projects.
  • Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects.
  • Locate underground services, such as pipes or wires, prior to beginning work.
  • Understand proper backfill requirements.
  • Perform safe and clean trench excavation and backfill.
  • Set and pull shield shoring and trench boxes in accordance with OSHA safe practices.
  • Safely change buckets and attachments in a timely manner
  • Able to calculate and set proper grades and elevations.
  • Monitor operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met.
  • Prepare and maintain equipment for safe daily operations (i.e. fuel, grease, etc.)
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills & Abilities
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years’ experience in wet or dry utility heavy equipment operator experience
  • Extensive knowledge and ability to install sewer, water, storm drain, and dry utility conduit.
  • Experience in underground utilities or heavy civil construction.
  • Understanding of construction safety and OSHA requirements
  • Ability to follow traffic laws, ordinances, and rules applicable to heavy equipment operation.
  • Must be able to work safely outdoors in Arizona heat conditions and perform all job duties with no restrictions.
  • Good listening and comprehension skills, follows instructions, takes responsibility for own actions.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships.
  • Able to work nights, weekends, and overtime as required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, reach, twist, climb, and lift 50 pounds.

  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to understand Arizona's blue stake laws and colors coding.
