Job summary

Waste Connections US, Inc. is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to safely operate equipment used in landfill operations, manage waste placement, and maintain compliance with environmental and safety regulations.

The role emphasizes airspace management and efficient landfill operations. The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy equipment in related environments, understand safety practices, and be capable of outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy equipment in landfill, construction, mining, excavation, or related environment preferred.
• Knowledge of safe equipment operating practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and customers.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to identify equipment issues.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment including compactors, dozers, excavators, skid steers, wheel loaders, and articulated trucks.
• Spread, compact, and cover waste per procedures.
• Construct and maintain landfill roads, drainage, and working faces.
• Inspect equipment before/after use and report maintenance needs.
• Complete daily equipment inspection reports and communicate repair needs.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance, including fueling, greasing, and cleaning.
• Maintain compliance with safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental requirements.
• Assist with site housekeeping and litter control.
• Collaborate with landfill operators, drivers, mechanics, and management for efficient operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment used in landfill operations. This position plays a critical role in maintaining landfill airspace, managing waste placement, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment including compactors, dozers, excavators, skid steers, wheel loaders, and articulated trucks.
• Spread, compact, and cover waste in accordance with landfill operating procedures.
• Construct and maintain landfill roads, drainage systems, and working faces.
• Inspect equipment before and after use to identify maintenance or safety concerns.
• Complete daily equipment inspection reports and communicate repair needs promptly.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance, including fueling, greasing, and cleaning.
• Maintain compliance with all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental requirements.
• Assist with site housekeeping and litter control efforts.
