Job summary

GFMCO, LLC in Columbus, GA is seeking a Front-End Loader/Heavy Equipment Operator to move raw materials, finished products, and scrap within an active foundry and machining environment.

The role requires safety-conscious handling of Caterpillar loaders and related heavy equipment, pre-operation inspections, and strict adherence to PPE and plant safety rules. Pre-employment drug screening is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience operating front-end loaders or similar heavy equipment in an industrial environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar front-end loaders and related heavy equipment is preferred.
  • Ability to safely maneuver heavy equipment in active production and material-handling areas.
  • Ability to perform required equipment inspections and recognize maintenance needs.
  • Understanding basic industrial safety practices and heavy-equipment operation.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively with team.
  • Dependable attendance and ability to work scheduled hours, including overtime when required.

Responsibilities

  • Load, unload, transport, and stage raw materials, scrap, finished products, and other materials as directed.
  • Assist with unloading incoming raw material deliveries and properly stage or organize materials in designated storage areas.
  • Move finished products and materials to designated storage, processing, or shipping areas.
  • Support production departments by providing timely material movement and equipment assistance as needed.
  • Perform required pre-operation and routine equipment inspections, including checking tires, fluid levels, lights, alarms, controls, and other safety-related components.
  • Immediately report equipment damage, unsafe conditions, malfunctions, or needed repairs to the appropriate supervisor or Maintenance personnel.
  • Perform basic operator-level equipment care, including cleaning and other routine tasks as assigned. Repairs or maintenance requiring qualified Maintenance personnel must be properly reported.
  • Operate equipment at safe speeds and maintain awareness of pedestrians, other mobile equipment, buildings, overhead clearances, production equipment, and changing plant or yard conditions.
  • Follow established traffic patterns, loading procedures, material storage requirements, and supervisor direction.
  • Maintain clean and organized equipment, work areas, travel paths, and material storage areas.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, equipment operating requirements, and personal protective equipment standards.
  • Participate in required safety, equipment, and job-specific training.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, production employees, Maintenance, Shipping, Receiving, and other departments regarding material movement, equipment condition, and operating concerns.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Description:

Goldens’ Foundry & Machine Company is seeking a reliable and safety-focused Front-End Loader / Heavy Equipment Operator to support our foundry and machining operations. This position is responsible for safely operating Caterpillar front-end loaders and other assigned heavy equipment to move raw materials, finished products, scrap, and other materials throughout the facility. The successful candidate must be dependable, safety-conscious, and able to operate heavy equipment efficiently in an active industrial environment while maintaining awareness of pedestrians, other equipment, and changing production conditions.
