Job summary

Carmeuse is seeking a plant operator to run and supervise production lines at our Portage, Indiana facility. The role requires operating equipment such as loaders, feeders, dryers, mills, and conveyors, while adhering to safety rules and producing samples for quality control.

You will prepare daily production and safety reports, coordinate with maintenance during outages, and ensure proper loading of finished product for shipment. Strong communication across shifts is essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Operates plant production equipment including front-end loader, vibratory feeder, flash dryer, roller mill, turbine classifier, dust collector, and conveyors.
• Retrieves production samples and records results in computer software to verify specifications.
• Prepares daily production reports and safety/environmental inspection forms.
• Oversees loading of finished product into trucks using automated scales and load-out systems.
• Maintains stockpile using equipment and performs minor maintenance as needed.
• Communicates production status and equipment changes to the next shift.
• Supports maintenance during major outages or breakdowns.

Job description

• Performs all duties in a safe manner following company safety rules and policies.
• Operates plant production equipment consisting of front-end loader, vibratory feeder, flash dryer, roller mill, turbine classifier, dust collector, product conveying systems, and control systems.
• Initiates equipment adjustments necessary during production to conform to customer specifications.
• Operates raw material feed system consisting of front-end loader, loader hopper, bucket elevator, conveyor and control system (PLC).
• Retrieves production samples from each mill to ensure product meets customer specifications. Samples are taken on scheduled intervals and more frequently, if necessary. Enters results into computer software.
• Services plant and mobile equipment, and performs minor maintenance and repairs, as required.
• Prepares daily production reports, safety (MSHA) and environmental (IDEM) inspection forms.
• Performs miscellaneous plant operational duties, such as, housekeeping, clean-up of spillage, disassemble/assemble of plant equipment, minor fabrication.
• Oversees loading of finished product into trucks, consisting of loading bulk trucks and utilizing the automated scales and load out systems.
• Communicates information from shift-to-shift with regards to production, areas of concern, and changes to equipment and operating practices.
• Operates ship unloading system to unload raw limestone from ship to company property.
• Performs maintenance duties when needed to support the maintenance staff during major plant outages and breakdowns.
• Other duties assigned by management.

Job Description

Pay range $34 - $42 per hour.
