Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Oversee repairs, maintenance, and purchases of department equipment and vehicles.
• Supervise mechanics responsible for maintaining gasoline and diesel equipment and vehicles.
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair equipment in shop and on job sites.
• Initiate, track, and report work orders using designated platforms.
• Prioritize repairs to minimize downtime and maximize service level.
• Review service reports to verify work compliance with specifications.
• Place orders for parts needed to service equipment and vehicles.
• Train equipment operators on basic troubleshooting and repairs.
• Stock and maintain parts inventory for common repairs.
• Train staff on best practices for equipment maintenance.
• May work nights, weekends, and holidays to support emergencies.

Summary

Responsible for overseeing diagnosis, repair, and servicing of heavy equipment and vehicles. Also performs skilled work in repairing heavy and light equipment. Coordinates equipment shop operations, supervises mechanics, and manages parts inventory. Maintains detailed records for required and completed maintenance and repairs. Collaborates with various stakeholders to advance efficient equipment maintenance and maximize service level.

Pay Range

$30.85- $37.94 (Depending on qualifications and experience)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Acts as the department's Fleet Coordinator encompassing coordination of repairs, maintenance, and purchases of department equipment and vehicles
• Supervises and directs mechanics responsible for maintaining various gasoline and diesel-powered light and heavy equipment and vehicles.
• Responsible for inspecting, diagnosing and repairing equipment and vehicles in the shop and on job sites
• Initiates, tracks and reports equipment and vehicle work orders using designated platforms.
• Works with management to prioritize equipment repairs to minimize down time and maximize service level
• Review service reports to verify all work is completed in compliance with specifications
• Places orders for parts necessary to service equipment and vehicles
• Train equipment operators on basic troubleshooting and repairs for equipment.
• Stocks and maintains parts inventory for common and emergency equipment repairs
• Trains staff on best practices for equipment maintenance and responsible care
• May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays to support response to natural disasters, critical incidents, and other emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• 7 years related experience in heavy equipment and diesel diagnosis and repair
• 2 years in a or supervisory or lead role

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

• Advanced training in automotive, diesel and heavy equipment mechanics
• 7-10 years relevant experience
• 3 ASE Certifications or documented training/credentials
• Commercial Driver License Class A

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Comprehensive knowledge of diesel and heavy equipment mechanics
• Comprehensive knowledge of automotive repair and diagnostics
• Knowledge of fleet software and electrical diagnostics
• Knowledge of safety best practices for servicing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment
• Skill in performing repair work on a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered construction equipment, light and heavy trucks and automobiles
• Skill in performing preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment
• Skill in prioritizing and meeting deadlines
• Skill in hydraulic system repair
• Ability to supervise the work of technical staff
• Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships
• Ability to maintain records and prepare reports
• Ability to operate a personal computer and learn software applicable to role
• Ability to work outside of normal work hours including evenings, weekends and on-call as required.
