While working for the Caltrans Division of Equipment, the incumbent will work under the direction of a Highway Mechanic Supervisor and/or a Caltrans Heavy Equipment Mechanic Leadworker. The incumbent will be working in a shop and/or field environment, constructing, inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and servicing various equipment used in the Department's fleet. They will complete records and reports, use computer equipment, and may assist in instructing or guiding helpers, apprentices, or other employees.
The incumbent must possess a valid class C driver license, and will be responsible for the safe and proper use of materials, tools, and equipment, using personal protective equipment (PPE). Work may involve outdoor tasks, travel, and working in inclement weather conditions, including severe cold or heat. Job assignments may require travel, shift rotations, and changes in work hours and days.
