Job summary

Sunstate Equipment Co. is seeking a qualified diesel/heavy equipment mechanic for our Carrollton, TX shop. You will diagnose, repair, and service diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, and related components.

The role requires 3+ years of experience, strong diagnostic skills, and a teamwork mindset. Benefits include uniforms, safety gear, and ongoing training in a fast-paced shop environment.

Qualifications

Position Requirements

Sunstate is a proud Second Chance employer that evaluates every candidate on a case by case basis.

• 3+ years of experience as a diesel, heavy equipment, construction equipment, rental equipment, or related mechanic. Strong automotive diagnostic experience may also be considered.
• Strong electrical and hydraulic diagnostic and repair experience, with preference given to candidates who have advanced knowledge in these areas.
• Ability to diagnose electrical and hydraulic issues, understand electrical flow and wiring, identify root causes, and complete repairs rather than simply replacing parts.
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, wiring, and Tier 4 emissions systems.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with the ability to use multimeters, wiring schematics, manufacturer diagnostic software, and other diagnostic tools.
• Basic understanding of CAN bus systems and computer controlled equipment, with a willingness to learn manufacturer specific diagnostic software and technology.
• Heavy equipment experience is highly preferred, including equipment such as boom lifts, scissor lifts, telehandlers, forklifts, skid steers, excavators, loaders, compressors, and other construction or rental equipment.
• Experience performing preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs while following manufacturer specifications.
• Must have a basic mechanic's tool set necessary to perform repairs and diagnostics.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to think critical, troubleshoot problems, and move quickly to identify and resolve equipment issues.
• Team player with a positive and competitive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to support the team and help wherever needed.
• Ambitious and motivated to continue developing technical skills and take on more complex diagnostic and repair responsibilities.
• Must be comfortable working in a fast paced shop environment with approximately 45 hours per week, with the potential to work up to 50 hours when business needs require.
• Must be willing to learn new equipment, technologies, manufacturer specific processes, and diagnostic systems. Approximately six weeks of hands on training will be provided, followed by ongoing mentoring and development.
• Welding and fabrication experience is preferred but not required.
• Safety oriented with a commitment to following Sunstate and industry safety standards while performing equipment repairs.
