Job summary

The Alpena County Road Commission seeks a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic in Alpena, Michigan to maintain trucks and road maintenance gear, ensuring safe, reliable operation for year-round work.

You will diagnose, repair, and service gas and diesel systems, electrical and hydraulic components, and perform welding or fabrication as needed. CDL is a plus, and a Master Heavy Duty Truck Mechanic certification is valued.

Qualifications

• Five years of experience in heavy-duty truck and equipment repair.
• State certification as a Master Heavy Duty Truck Mechanic.
• Knowledge of gas and diesel engines, electrical and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to diagnose, service, and repair varied equipment and use diagnostic tools.
• Willingness to maintain repair records and work with teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on trucks, vehicles, and mechanical equipment.
• Diagnose, service, and repair gas and diesel-powered equipment.
• Troubleshoot engines, brakes, electrical, fuel, hydraulics, transmissions, cooling, and A/C systems.
• Inspect equipment, identify problems, and determine repairs.
• Use diagnostic equipment and hand, electric, and air-powered tools.
• Perform welding, cutting, minor body repair, and fabrication.
• Change tires and maintain repair records.
• Perform Truck Driver duties when needed.
