Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience with dredge systems, welding, fabrication, and a commitment to safety per MSHA standards. Work is outdoors with occasional extended hours when needed.

Atomic Sand, LLC, part of the Williams Family Companies, is a premier sand mining operation producing nuclear-grade aggregate and high‑quality sand products for the Aiken, SC; Augusta, GA; and greater CSRA region. Named for the nearby nuclear reactor project that required exceptionally pure material, Atomic Sand continues to exceed these standards through rigorous onsite testing and a highly skilled workforce.

We are currently seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic for a full‑time position at our Beech Island, SC site. Standard hours are Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–5:00 PM (approximately 50 hours per week), with occasional Saturday overtime based on operational needs. Compensation ranges from $30 to $35 per hour, depending on experience.

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing heavy machinery and industrial equipment used in mining and wash‑plant operations. This role ensures equipment reliability, supports production goals, and upholds all MSHA and company safety standards. Work is performed outdoors in industrial environments with exposure to noise, dust, dirt, and heavy machinery. Ideal candidates have hands‑on experience with conveyors, pumps, wash‑plant components, heavy equipment, and dredge systems.

Essential duties include equipment repair and maintenance, diagnosing mechanical and hydraulic issues, performing preventive maintenance, welding and fabrication, troubleshooting malfunctions, maintaining accurate records, and following all MSHA and company safety protocols. Additional responsibilities include participating in safety meetings, communicating effectively with supervisors and team members, maintaining clean work areas, and adapting to changing job site conditions.

Physical & Environmental Requirements This role requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull heavy objects unassisted; frequent bending, climbing, kneeling, and working in tight or awkward positions; and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and around water. Exposure to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and industrial hazards is expected. Candidates must remain alert, aware, and safety‑focused at all times.

Qualifications:

Candidates must be able to perform preventive maintenance, operate hand and power tools safely, and follow written, verbal, and diagram‑based instructions. Strong problem‑solving skills, hand?eye coordination, and spatial awareness are essential. A commitment to safety, dependable attendance, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are required.
