Qualifications

  • Proficiency using diagnostic scan tools and multimeters
  • Ability to read technical manuals and repair documentation
  • Ability to lift heavy parts and work in varying weather conditions
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Description

Longhorn Energy and Transportation is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team in Juneau. This full-time, on-site position offers an excellent opportunity for an associate-level professional to make a direct impact within the transportation industry. As part of our maintenance and repair team, you will help keep our heavy equipment fleet safe, reliable, and ready for operation.

In this role, you will diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of heavy equipment, including trucks, trailers, and support vehicles. Your expertise will support our company’s daily transportation operations and contribute to overall fleet efficiency, minimizing downtime through proactive maintenance and fast, accurate repairs. We value hands‑on problem-solvers who take pride in quality workmanship and adhere to strict safety standards.

We offer a competitive pay rate of $40-$50 USD per hour, commensurate with experience, along with the opportunity to work in a stable, transportation-focused environment in Juneau.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot heavy equipment systems to identify mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and operational issues
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks according to manufacturer specifications and company schedules
  • Repair or replace damaged or worn parts, components, and systems on trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment
  • Conduct hydraulic system inspections, repairs, and fluid testing
  • Troubleshoot diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, and steering systems
  • Use diagnostic software and tools to identify faults and verify repairs
  • Operate lifting equipment, shop tools, and machinery safely while completing repairs
  • Document all maintenance activities, parts used, and repair findings accurately
  • Follow all workplace safety protocols and environmental regulations
  • Collaborate with other mechanics, drivers, and operations staff to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime
  • Maintain tools and equipment in clean, working order
  • Support road‑call assistance or emergency repairs when needed
Requirements
  • Associate-level experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, diesel mechanic, or related role
  • Strong knowledge of heavy‑diesel engines and related systems
  • Experience with hydraulic systems, air brakes, electrical systems, and drivetrain components
  • Proficiency using diagnostic scan tools, multimeters, washing, and mechanical measuring equipment
  • Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and repair documentation
  • Competence using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and shop tools safely
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to lift heavy parts, stand for extended periods, and work in varying weather conditions
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards
