GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a skilled Mechanic to maintain heavy-duty trucks, CNG/gas units, and specialized equipment at a landfill setting. Starting pay ranges from $30 to $32 per hour, with top pay increasing based on experience and qualifications.

The role runs 6:30am-4:30pm Monday–Friday with occasional Saturdays. Benefits include paid time off, overtime after 40 hours, a 401(k) after 6 months, and health benefits after 60 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; vocational training preferred.
• 3+ years of hands-on diesel/heavy equipment experience preferred.
• ASE Heavy Truck Certifications (T1–T8) or equivalent training.

Responsabilités

• Diagnostics and repair of diesel engine, electrical, brake, and hydraulic systems on site.
• Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections to minimize downtime.
• Welding and fabrication to repair heavy equipment components.
• Respond to field service calls and emergency breakdowns at sites.
• Keep written maintenance logs of parts usage and repairs.

About the Role At GFL Environmental (Green For Life), we keep communities clean, safe, and moving forward—and our fleet is the backbone of that mission! We’re looking for a skilled, self-motivated Mechanic to keep our heavy-duty trucks, CNG/gas units, and specialized equipment running in peak condition. If you love troubleshooting complex mechanical puzzles, take pride in top-tier workmanship, and prefer working during afternoon/evening hours without someone standing over your shoulder, this is the team for you.

Starting Pay: $30-$32/hr (Top Pay Will Increase Based on EXP/Qualifications)

Starting Shift: Hours are 6:30am-4:30pm M-F and some Saturday work as needed.

Core Responsibilities

• Diagnostics & Repair: Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, diesel engine, brake, and hydraulic system failures on site.
• Preventive Maintenance: Perform scheduled fluid changes, greasing, filter replacements, and safety inspections to minimize operational downtime.
• Welding & Fabrication: Make structural repairs, patch blades/buckets, and weld metal components on heavy machinery.
• Field Service: Respond to emergency breakdowns directly on the active working face of the landfill.
• Record Keeping: Log parts usage, repair times, and maintenance histories.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or GED; vocational training or a formal apprenticeship in heavy equipment mechanics is preferred.
• Experience: Proven hands-on experience working as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic (3+ years preferred).
• Certifications: ASE Heavy Truck Certifications (T1–T8) or brand-specific training.
• Licenses: A valid driver's license; a Class B or Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.
• Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with OSHA standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Hazard Communication (HazCom).
