Job summary

Barnard Construction Company, Inc. is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Technician for our site in Del Rio, Texas. You will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a range of construction equipment to keep projects running smoothly.

Ideal candidates have extensive experience with diesel and gas engines, hydraulic systems, and welding. You will work in a safety‑conscious team environment with opportunities for growth and competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience troubleshooting and repairing heavy equipment.
• Experience with diesel and gas engines, hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical systems.
• Must own service truck (not required) and tools applicable to the position.
• Basic understanding of schematics and diagrams.
• Ability to inspect heavy equipment and identify defects and performance issues in field and shop.
• Maintenance and repairs of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and diesel systems on a variety of construction equipment.
• Perform visual inspections, diagnostics and preventative maintenance.
• Fabricate parts when needed.
• Perform duties per Barnard’s safety culture and policies.
• Skilled in welding and cutting.
• Valid driver license and satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Exert heavy physical effort, handling objects up to 100 pounds.
• Kneel, stoop, crouch, balance, climb or crawl.
• Rig and hoist material.
• Tolerate heights without fear.
• Maintain balance.
• Enter the cab of equipment 3.5 feet or more off the ground.
• Stand or walk for long periods and work in extreme weather (cold and wet).
• Work long, irregular hours, six to seven days per week, 50 to 70 hours per week.
• Maintain regular, punctual attendance per standards.
• Safely perform essential job functions per standards.

• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Ability to safely and effectively perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
