Salvage and Service is seeking to hire a Heavy Equipment Mechanic based in Bloomington, Indiana.

Salvage & Service is a sustainable company that recycles nearly all salvaged materials, helping the environment and reducing costs for customers.

We are a leading wholesale provider of used and new railroad ties, treated hardwood railroad track products, and recycled utility poles.

Job Functions

• Work on heavy equipment, trucks, and service vehicles
• Follow all safety policies and procedures
• Inspect and diagnose vehicle/equipment issues; identify and repair worn, broken, or damaged parts
• Identify mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems and determine solutions
• Perform preventive maintenance according to industry standards
• Maintain shop equipment and supplies; troubleshoot and repair as needed
• Inspect and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems
• Lubricate components during maintenance
• Work independently with minimal supervision
• Complete paperwork using fleet maintenance software for repairs, parts, and labor tracking
• Keep work area clean and safe, following safety procedures

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of hydraulics and diesel vehicles
• Experience with MIG and stick welding
