Job description

Barber Brothers Contracting Co., LLC, a road construction contractor located in Baton Rouge, LA, is seeking an Experienced Heavy Highway Equipment Mechanic. This great position is with an established company and provides an opportunity for the right candidate to positively impact the company’s operations.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for our industry and have spent several years working with equipment and trucks in the heavy highway industry. It is important that the candidate have knowledge on the routine service requirements of a variety of heavy equipment.

The main duty of the Equipment Mechanic position is to service and repair the equipment and trucks used in Heavy Highway Construction Operations. The position requires consistent incorporation the company’s safety initiatives into daily tasks.

Other duties include:
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting equipment failures.
  • Repairing and maintaining diesel and gasoline engines.
  • Adjusting and repairing ignition, fuel, electrical, hydraulic and steering systems.
  • Maintaining and repairing chassis, frames and bodies.
  • Working with hoisting and jacking equipment, power tools, measuring instruments, gauges and meters.
  • Lubricating equipment.
  • Maintain and repair tires, batteries, brakes and valves.
  • Repair and replace worn parts such as pistons, bearings, gears, valves, bushings, etc.
  • Contribute to daily shop functions such as maintenance scheduling and spare parts inventory control.
  • Estimate of material,labor, and equipment requirements.
  • Exercise safe working practices including use of required PPE at all times.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
Qualifications:
  • Five plus years of Heavy Highway Experience.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
