Job summary

W.T. Byler Co., LLC, a Quanta Services Company, seeks a skilled Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic to support construction projects in the Houston, TX area and Gulf Coast region.

This field-based role performs on-site diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repairs to minimize downtime and keep crews productive. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, 2+ years of field mechanic experience, and familiarity with CAT/John Deere/Link-Belt/Mitsubishi equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 2 years experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, preferably in field service.
• Experience on Caterpillar, John Deere, Link-Belt, Mitsubishi or similar equipment.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills in diesel engines, hydraulics and electrical systems.
• Fabrication and welding experience preferred.
• Willingness to travel for extended assignments and respond to weekend or emergency call-outs.

Responsibilities

• Travel to active job sites to diagnose and repair heavy construction equipment in the field.
• Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on excavators, loaders, dozers, motor graders, forklifts and related machinery.
• Troubleshoot hydraulic, diesel engine, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• Respond quickly to field service requests to minimize downtime and maintain project productivity.
• Identify and order required parts for repairs and coordinate with shop personnel for major repairs.
• Maintain accurate service reports and inspection documentation.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures in active construction environments.

W.T. Byler, a Quanta Services Company, is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic to support active construction projects in the Houston, TX area and surrounding Gulf Coast region. This is a field-based role responsible for performing on-site diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs on heavy equipment to minimize downtime and keep crews productive.

What You'll Do

• Travel to active job sites to diagnose and repair heavy construction equipment in the field
• Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on excavators, loaders, dozers, motor graders, forklifts, and related machinery
• Troubleshoot hydraulic, diesel engine, electrical, and mechanical systems
• Respond quickly to field service requests to minimize downtime and maintain project productivity

• Follow all company and client safety policies and procedures while working in active construction environments

What You'll Bring

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, preferably in field service
• Experience working on Caterpillar, John Deere, Link Belt, Mitsubishi, and similar major equipment manufacturers
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills in diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
• Fabrication and welding experience preferred
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and active construction environments
• Willingness to travel for extended assignments and respond to weekend or emergency call-outs as needed
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
