The for this position at Scotts/Hawthorne will generally fall between $27.35 - 35.55 per hour and is paid weekly. Scotts/Hawthorne will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.

We are looking for a Heavy Equipment/Diesel Mechanic who will join our team in Lawrenceville, VA.

What you'll do in this role:

  • Performs repair and maintenance on the rolling stock associated with the plant. Repairs done on the rolling stock include motor related, electrical, electronic, mechanical,hydraulic and pneumatic repairs. Rolling stock would include over the road tractors and trailers, fork lifts, truck carried fork lifts, loaders, dozers, pick up trucks, compost turners and other types of rolling stock at the plant. May also work on plant production equipment as required. Must be familiar with both gasoline and diesel powerplants.

  • Maintains records of jobs performed in order to develop a history of repairs so that preventative maintenance can be performed. Record keeping is done to meet or exceed DOT requirements for over the road equipment. Must be computer literate to maintain records, experience using CMMS+ is a plus.

  • May perform or assist in the installation of machinery and equipment. Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.

  • Keeps work area clean, orderly and safe.

The perfect person will have:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills; able to accurately diagnose and repair equipment.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on as needed basis.

  • Must be able to stand, sit, walk, stoop and bend for extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment.

  • Must be able to work with machine operators, mechanics and contractors and/or vendors.

  • Must be able to work the required shift.
