Qualifications

Salary Range: $25.69 - $34.11 Hourly
Description

Duties: Under the supervision of the Heavy Equipment Foreman, the Heavy Equipment Crew Leader is responsible for:

  • Operating and maintaining all equipment and machinery that is assigned to this department.
  • Transporting and delivering heavy and bulky materials.
  • Earthmoving, grading and trenching.
  • Plowing and removal of snow.
  • The operation of the weld maintenance work shop.
  • Fabricating and repairing metal work required for the Park District.
  • Planning work and supervising workmen assigned.
  • The occasional maintenance/repair welding of vehicles within the Park District.
  • Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supporting all aspects of the Park District's safety program.
  • Keeping inventory of all metal stock.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
  • Assisting with planning work and supervising workmen assigned. In the absence of the foreman, the crew leader is to be in charge of planning work and supervising workmen assigned.

Pay Scale:Apprentice Rate: $25.69 per hour; After 3 months, base pay: $32.11 per hour. Maximum pay rate is $34.11 per hour.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to reach equipment required for completing job duties.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle weighing 16 tons.
  • Ability to operate power machinery relative to job duties.
  • Ability to understand and complete record keeping and paperwork relative to job duties.
Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or GED required.

Experience: Minimum of three years in operating of heavy equipment such as graders, Caterpillars, loaders, tractors and trucks.

Knowledge and Ability:

  • Thorough knowledge of work involved in grounds and building maintenance.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Work harmoniously with park personnel and the public.
  • Must maintain a valid Illinois State 'Class A CDL' Driver's License.
  • Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
  • Personal: Work record that shows reliability, initiative, and a courteous manner.

This position is represented by the Teamsters’ Local Union No. 627.
