Job Description
Summary
Responsible for the proper handling of sand and gravel materials, and for the safe and proper care, operation, and maintenance of equipment assigned to the Heavy Equipment Operator.
Functional Responsibilities
- Exhibit a strong work ethic with the ability to take direction and work in a team setting and independently.
- Adhere to Permian Basin Materials Code of Conduct and company policies.
- Effectively operate all types of aggregate equipment including loaders, backhoes, blades, scrapers, and dozers according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Load rock crushing machinery, dump trucks, trailers, and pickups with the proper amount of requested material.
- Learn site aggregate materials to differentiate between products and keep them in correct locations.
- Maintain pit traffic flow by directing all internal and external traffic safely and efficiently.
- Use radios properly, keeping the Manager informed of relevant information and issues.
- Follow company, OSHA, and MSHA safety procedures and promote the safety program.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment; report defects or repairs needed.
- Clean interior and exterior of equipment as scheduled or instructed.
- Perform general cleanup of equipment, yard, and buildings.
- Comply with all safety, health, environmental, and company policies and procedures.
- Wear protective clothing and equipment as necessary, including hearing protection, dust masks, safety glasses, boots, harnesses, etc.
- Perform other duties as required or directed.
Experience, Training, Certifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- At least one year of heavy equipment operation experience required.
Requirements
- Candidate must be drug-free.
- Position involves moderately strenuous physical work.
- Must be able to:
- Lift and carry up to 40 pounds occasionally.
- Push or pull up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Climb in and out of equipment 50+ times per day.
- Climb ladders occasionally.
- Sit or stand for extended periods.
- Operate and service machinery using hands, fingers, and feet.
- Travel safely over uneven terrain and operate heavy machinery.
- Respond to instructions and moving machinery visually and verbally.
- Wear protective gear including hard hat, safety glasses, high visibility clothing, steel-toed boots, and gloves.
- Observe all safety policies on-site and while operating machinery.
- Work in extreme weather conditions and in wet, muddy, or slippery environments.
- Work environment varies from outdoors with noise and dust to normal office settings.
