Job summary

DC Government is seeking a Motor Vehicle Operator (Tow Truck) within the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services (DCFEMS), Apparatus Division. The role focuses on safe operation of heavy-duty tow trucks and recovery vehicles to support fleet operations and emergency readiness.

Qualifications

Requires valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B or higher, for tow truck operation.
Endorsements including air brake endorsement must be maintained per DOT regulations.
Subject to pre-employment and periodic background checks and drug/alcohol testing as safety protocols.

Responsibilities

Operate heavy duty tow trucks and recovery vehicles to tow, transport, recover, and reposition departmental vehicles and apparatus.
Perform towing and recovery operations, including winching, loading, unloading, securing, and stabilizing vehicles and equipment per safety procedures.
Conduct pre-operation and post-operation inspections; report mechanical deficiencies, safety hazards, or equipment malfunctions.
Maintain required records related to towing activities, vehicle movements, and equipment usage; comply with laws and department policies.
