Teck Resources Limited is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic VI for Red Dog Operations in Alaska. The role supports troubleshooting and maintenance of large mining equipment on a fly-in/fly-out schedule, with two-or-three week rotations on-site and off-site.

You will work with dozers, graders, haul trucks, and loaders, performing inspections, maintenance, and safety-focused tasks. Ideal candidates will have a Journeyperson certification or equivalent heavy- industrial maintenance experience, strong

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Journeyperson Heavy-Duty/Heavy-Equipment Mechanic certification, or 7+ years of proven experience in heavy industrial maintenance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Adhere to high safety standards.
  • Ability to work day, afternoon, or night shifts.
  • Team player with good communication.
  • Self-motivated with ability to perform tasks with limited direction.
  • Outdoor work with exposure to extreme conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license desirable.

Responsabilités

  • Be a courageous safety leader; follow safety and environmental rules.
  • Inspect equipment, install, troubleshoot and maintain power transmission, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, brakes.
  • Diagnose, dismantle, assemble and align heavy mobile equipment (dozers, graders, trucks, loaders).
  • Perform routine maintenance such as lubrication, seal replacement, parts cleaning, and overhauls.
  • Coordinate with operators, engineers and trades; plan their portion of the job and estimate material costs and hours.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles.
  • Provide accurate work closure details on work orders.
  • Maintain tools in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Serve as relief HE Supervisor when needed.
  • Communicate tasks and updates across shifts.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of environmental risks and compliance; conduct daily inspections.
  • Adhere to policies and SOPs; assist coworkers and visitors as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Role Overview


Reporting to the HE Shop Supervisor, the Heavy Duty Mechanic VI at RedDog support in a critical and dynamic role that is responsible for troubleshooting a wide array of large and complex mining and related equipment across site


The rotation schedule for these opportunities will be an even rotation, with the option for 2 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site, or 3 weeks on-site and 3 off-site

Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Inspect and examine mobile equipment to detect and find irregularities and malfunctions; install, troubleshoot and maintain power transmission, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and braking systems
  • Diagnose, dismantle, assemble, and align mobile equipment including dozers, graders, haulage trucks and loaders
  • Complete routine tasks such as lubrication of fleet equipment, seal replacement, cleaning of parts during an overhaul and preventative maintenance
  • Interact with a variety of employees on the property such as operators, engineering, trades and operating supervision on methods, procedures and hazards in order to coordinate the services of other trades and service personnel in the planning of their portion of the job; prioritizing work on a daily basis utilizing the Maintenance Order System; estimating material costs and labor hours on jobs and troubleshooting equipment
  • Complete preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles
  • Complete and provide accurate work closure details which are recorded on work order
  • Ensure all tools are maintained and kept in a clean and orderly condition
  • Serve as relief HE Supervisor when required
  • Communicate effectively with other trade personnel, colleague and supervisor about assigned tasks and ensuring carryover and updates of completed tasks throughout the shift
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of environmental risks and hazards as well as follow safety policies and procedures (MSHA and Red Dog EMS training) and ensure daily workplace inspections are done in order to accurately identify and correct workplace hazards
  • Ensure compliance with all established policies and standard operating procedures and advise coworkers and visitors of such policies and procedures as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Journeyperson Heavy-Duty/Heavy-Equipment Mechanic certification, or seven (7) or more years of proven experience in a heavy industrial maintenance environment, which includes diagnosing, dismantling, assembling, and aligning heavy mobile equipment
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, are required
  • Adhere to high safety standards
  • Work day, afternoon, or night shifts as required
  • Team player and able to communicate well with others
  • Highly motivated and have the ability to perform tasks with limited direction
  • Work outdoors with potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions and perform labor-intensive work when required
  • Obtain a valid driver's license is desirable
