Job summary

ASRC Construction in Anchorage is seeking a Heavy-Duty Mechanic to service, repair, and maintain heavy construction vehicles in both shop and field environments year-round. Responsibilities include diagnosing with automotive software, repairing engines and hydraulics, and performing scheduled maintenance to ensure operational readiness.

Required are 5 years of experience with heavy equipment, valid Alaska driver’s license, and Class B CDL with medical card; Class A with HazMat is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years’ related experience repairing and maintaining heavy construction vehicles and equipment.
  • Valid Alaska Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Drivers License with current medical card.
  • Preferred: Valid Class A Commercial Drivers License with HazMat Certification.
  • Ability to work outside and/or in a cold environment for long durations.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and repair heavy construction vehicles and equipment in shop or field settings.
  • Conduct diagnostic scans using automotive software.
  • Repair engines, fuel systems, hydraulics, electronics, brakes, and transmissions.
  • Disassemble and reassemble vehicle parts using hoists and tools.
  • Perform routine maintenance and lubrications per schedule.
  • Operate equipment to verify performance and needed repairs.
  • Communicate repair needs to Shop Foreman/Superintendent.
  • Travel to remote sites as needed; deployment may last >2 weeks.

Job description

The Heavy-Duty Mechanic is responsible for service, repair, and maintenance of heavy construction vehicles and equipment within a shop and field environment. The position is a year-round position based out of Anchorage shop facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspect, diagnose, order parts and complete repairs to construction vehicles and equipment such as bulldozers, cranes, end dumps, front-end loaders, motor graders, tractor-trailers, water trucks, and miscellaneous non-mobile and light duty equipment.
  • Conduct diagnostic scan and reporting using automotive software in completion of repairs and maintenance.
  • Adjust, repair, and replace engines, fuel systems, hydraulic and electrical systems, brakes, suspension, steering, and transmissions.
  • Disassemble and assemble vehicles and equipment parts using hoists, hand tools, pneumatic and electric tools, and instruments.
  • Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including lubrication and oil changes in accordance with maintenance schedules.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment to diagnose and ensure operating efficiency.
  • Communicate needed repairs and level of action required to Shop Foreman / Superintendent.
  • Complete field requisitions for materials and parts required for completion of repairs.
  • Perform welding repairs as needed for completion of repairs.
  • Support HSE processes and Haz-Req programs. Assume personal accountability and responsibility to ensure all tasks are performed safely.
  • Present safety concerns to Leadership’s attention.
  • Travel to/from remote locations and job sites as needed.Deployment will vary in duration depending on business needs but could last for more than two weeks.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work varying hours with overtime as needed, including weekends and holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred

Valid Class A Commercial Drivers License w/ HAZMAT Certification.
