Job summary

Milwaukee County's Department of Transportation is seeking a Heavy Duty Fleet Mechanic to repair, set up, dismantle, and maintain county-owned vehicles and equipment. The role requires availability for first, second, and third shifts to support fleet operations.

Responsibilities include diagnosing repairs, using shop equipment, ordering parts, maintaining maintenance documentation, and preparing units for auction.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of formal experience as a heavy-duty mechanic within the last five years.
• Able to troubleshoot and repair problems with little to no supervision.
• Must possess a Wisconsin driver's license and readiness to obtain a CDL if required.

Responsibilities

• Fleet repairs: diagnose and repair county-owned fleet vehicles and equipment.
• Use shop equipment for fleet repairs (floor hoists, diagnostic equipment, etc.).
• Repair parts ordering to fix vehicles and equipment.
• Documentation management: complete and file paperwork per Fleet policy.
• Auction preparation: dismantle and prepare vehicles and equipment for auction.
• Interpret service manuals, electrical and hydraulic schematics.
• Winter operations: respond to snow duty call-outs as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
