Job summary

UC Santa Cruz's Physical Planning, Development & Operations department seeks a Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician to maintain and repair a wide range of university-owned vehicles and equipment, from buses and trucks to generators and welding projects.

You will read blueprints, perform diagnostics, fabricate components, and document work while meeting safety, union, and regulatory requirements; travel up to 50% across campus sites and shift 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM.

Qualifications

• Journeyman-level experience in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair.
• Experience with tools and special tools used in automotive work.
• Ability to weld and fabricate as part of repair tasks.
• Knowledge of diagnostic equipment used for vehicle systems.
• Ability to safely operate and inspect vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform major repair and maintenance of automotive and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
• Maintain and repair emission control systems to meet regulations.
• Conduct repairs on gasoline, diesel, propane, CNG, and electric-powered vehicles.
• Read blueprints and execute metal fabrication projects as directed.
• Drive vehicles that are being repaired.
