Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy-Duty Mechanic Lead to join our Mechanical Team. This team is responsible for maintaining and repairing our diverse fleet of equipment, including side and end dumps, aggregate screening plants, dozers, skid steers, loaders, excavators, and more.

Position Details
  • Type: Full-time, year-round
  • Pay: $40-48 per hour (DOE)
  • Facilities: Brand new, state-of-the-art maintenance building (to be completed fall/winter 2024)
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, with weekend shifts and overtime during busy seasons
  • Location: South Anchorage yard and indoor shop facilities with occasional local travel for on-site repairs
Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues
  • Conduct thorough testing of equipment after repairs to ensure proper functionality
  • Keep accurate and timely records of maintenance and repair work
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures
  • Maintain a safe working environment
  • Lead the mechanic team, monitor workload and progress, and communicate with management
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams
  • Teamwork and independent task completion capabilities
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Thorough knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems
Requirements
  • Own tools
  • Current driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass DOT drug test and background check
  • Four years of heavy-duty diesel mechanic experience, preferably in a similar industry
Preferred (but not required) Qualifications
  • Valid CDL
  • Mechanic certification
  • Welding experience
  • Certification or diploma in heavy-duty equipment mechanics or a related field
