Job summary

Spencer Construction is actively seeking an experienced Surveyor to support heavy civil construction projects. The role involves construction staking, layout, and establishing project control to ensure adherence to plans and specifications.

You will work with Project Managers, Engineers, and field crews to provide accurate survey data, verify grades, and maintain field records. A minimum of 3 years in surveying is expected, with proficiency in GPS equipment and Civil 3D preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of construction surveying experience, preferably in heavy civil construction.
• Experience with GPS survey equipment, robotic total stations, and survey software.
• Proficiency with Trimble, Leica, Topcon, Carlson, Civil 3D or similar surveying tech.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and engineering drawings.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction staking and layout for earthwork, utilities, concrete, roads, drainage, and structural elements.
• Establish and maintain horizontal and vertical project control.
• Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and engineering drawings.
• Verify grades, elevations, alignments, and boundaries throughout all phases of construction.
• Operate GPS, robotic total stations, data collectors, and other surveying equipment.
• Prepare and maintain accurate field notes, survey reports, and as-built documentation.
• Coordinate survey activities with Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Superintendents.
• Perform quantity verification and assist with progress measurements as needed.
