Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of experience in excavation, earthwork, and underground utilities.
• Experience as a superintendent or supervisor in heavy civil construction.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.

• Plan, coordinate, and manage all aspects of excavation, earthwork, and underground utility projects.
• Ensure materials, equipment, subcontractors, and resources are scheduled and available.
• Read and interpret plans, specifications, and soil reports to guide field execution.
• Coordinate permits, inspections, utility locates, traffic control, and temporary services.
• Monitor progress, productivity, and costs, making real-time adjustments to stay on schedule and within budget.
• Oversee site mobilization at project start and efficient closeout upon completion.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and reporting.
• Direct foremen, operators, and laborers; lead hiring and training; enforce safety and quality standards.

Position Overview

The Heavy Civil Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all phases of construction operations, including planning, scheduling, staffing, and execution. This role requires strong leadership, deep field expertise, and the ability to manage multiple moving parts while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Field Operations

• Plan, coordinate, and manage all aspects of excavation, earthwork, and underground utility projects
• Ensure all materials, equipment, subcontractors, and resources are scheduled and available
• Read and interpret plans, specifications, and soil reports to guide field execution
• Coordinate permits, inspections, utility locates, traffic control, and temporary services
• Monitor job progress, productivity, and costs, making real-time adjustments to stay on schedule and within budget

Leadership & Team Management

• Directly supervise foremen, operators, and laborers
• Lead hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management
• Set clear expectations and maintain accountability for safety, quality, and productivity
• Ensure proper staffing levels and efficient crew scheduling
• Promote a strong safety culture and enforce all safety protocols

Client & Stakeholder Relations

• Serve as the primary field contact for clients, inspectors, and vendors
• Maintain professional communication and represent the company with integrity
• Participate in meetings and provide updates on project status
• Ensure job sites remain organized, clean, and professional

Equipment & Asset Management

• Oversee the use, maintenance, and security of company equipment and jobsite assets

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of experience in excavation, earthwork, and underground utilities
• Proven experience in a superintendent or supervisory role within heavy civil construction
• Strong knowledge of safety standards
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
• Solid math, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Effective communicator with strong leadership presenceValid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Ability to meet physical demands of the job, including lifting 50+ lbs
