Job summary

The Caton Construction Group, based in Cary, NC, is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our civil construction team. You will develop project estimates and schedules for $1M–$35M initiatives and support junior staff throughout the bid process.

Ideal candidates have a degree in a construction-related field, hands-on estimating experience with heavy highway or similar work, and proficiency with HeavyBid or equivalent software. Local travel and full-time hours apply.

Caton Construction Group, one of the Caton Companies, is growing! Our family owned company is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team for our projects in various locations in Virginia and North Carolina. We are hiring for our office in Cary, North Carolina.

Summary/Objective

The Estimator is responsible for developing project estimates and schedules for civil construction projects ranging from $1M to $35M, evaluating contract requirements, and providing direction and assistance to junior team members.

Essential Functions

• Read and interpret pertinent bid documents and plans
• Perform quantity takeoffs from civil construction plans and documents
• Develop the project scope and identify necessary disciplines
• Identify subcontractor roles
• Evaluate DBE participation to ensure project goals are met
• Identify constructability issues
• Identify value engineering opportunities
• Coordinate pre-bid activities and inquiries with the owner
• Develop and review project estimates and schedules ($1M-$30M)
• Provide direction and assistance to junior team members
• Develop and deliver project bid packages

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:0 a.m. Weekend work may be required on occasion.

Travel/ Driving

• Local travel is required. May need to utilize personal transportation.

Required Education and Experience

• Associates or bachelor's degree in a construction-related field

Preferred Education and Experience

• Experience with heavy highway, earthwork, bridge, and utility construction
• Previous work with NCDOT and VDOT
• Previous experience with estimating software HeavyBid or equivalent
