Job description

We are looking for an experienced Heat Treat / Calibration Technician to join our Cal-Cert team, an Accredited Lab Company.

As a Heat Treat Technician, you will be responsible for the calibration, repair, and servicing of heat treat equipment (furnaces, ovens, temperature/humidity chambers), hardness testing equipment (Rockwell, Brinnell, Knoop, and Vickers), and force testing equipment (tensile testers, creep and stress rupture machines, extensometers) at our customer locations. Travel is primarily in the Portland metro area, with occasional travel throughout the Northwest, including overnight stays.

The ideal candidate should have the ability to troubleshoot digital and computerized controllers, understand PID settings and motor control systems, perform thermocouple calibrations, and conduct temperature uniformity surveys in compliance with AMS2750 standards.

Location

On-site at various customer sites in Portland, OR, and surrounding areas. Overnight project travel throughout the Northwest is required.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  1. Perform all duties in accordance with ISO 17025.
  2. Complete accurate and timely calibrations on customer sites.
  3. Perform calibration, performance checks, repair, and maintenance on a variety of instruments following established procedures and standards.
  4. Operate, maintain, and adjust calibration test equipment such as:
  • Heat treat equipment (furnaces, ovens, chambers)
  • Hardness testing equipment (Rockwell, Brinnell, Knoop, Vickers)
  • Force testing equipment (tensile testers, creep and stress rupture machines, extensometers)
  • Use other hand tools (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators)
  • Review work processes, calibration, and test results for accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to provide updates and answer questions.
  • Ensure calibration activities comply with procedures, industry regulations, and quality standards.
  • Conduct all calibration and testing safely, adhering to safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate calibration records and documentation.
  • Basic Qualifications:
    • 2+ years of calibration experience in heat treat.
    • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
    • Willingness to travel to customer locations in Portland, OR, and overnight travel throughout the Northwest (~75% of the time).
    • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and work in high-temperature environments.
    • Basic knowledge of AMS2750 and thermocouple calibration procedures.
    • Excellent troubleshooting skills for electronic and computerized control systems.
    • Professional demeanor and strong communication skills.
    • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
    • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in the field.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Attention to detail and ability to follow precise procedures.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
    • If assigned a fleet vehicle, you are required to store the vehicle safely at your residence.
    • Knowledge and experience with electrical, physical, and mechanical calibration of equipment.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Associate's Degree in Engineering, Electronics, or related technical fields, or equivalent experience.
    • Technical Degree or Certificate.
    • Experience with IndySoft.
