Position Summary

Responsible for newborn infant hearing screenings mandated by the Ohio Department of Health. Conducts universal newborn hearing screenings (OAE and/or BAER) on all infants born or transferred to the hospital, or as ordered by physicians. This role may include responsibilities for both per diem and full-time/part-time technicians.

Accountabilities
  1. Ensure all lock/door/code access for new employees during orientation (FT/PT).
  2. Verify computer access for site-specific equipment during new employee orientation (FT/PT).
  3. Complete all Ohio Department of Health (ODH) required trainings.
  4. Conduct universal infant hearing screenings on newborns.
  5. Obtain pertinent history for forms and IPHIS hearing tab.
  6. Prepare test results for review by Audiologist (FT/PT).
  7. Complete electronic charting, including charges and scanning reports into EPIC, and route results to physicians, following ODH timelines.
  8. Complete Infant Progress reports with relevant history and parent signatures.
  9. Provide nursery with a list of babies and results for charge nurses (FT/PT).
  10. Enter hearing test results into IPHIS (FT/PT).
  11. Report follow-up statistics to ODH upon request (FT/PT).
  12. Maintain statistical reports for the infant hearing screening program monthly and yearly (FT/PT).
  13. Follow up with families at 1 and 3 months as needed (FT/PT).
  14. Maintain equipment and notify management when supplies are low.
  15. Monitor calibration and cleaning schedules for all equipment (FT/PT).
  16. Plan and communicate schedules for per diem staff at least one month in advance (FT/PT).
  17. Complete CPR/BLS certification prior to first solo weekend.

Working Conditions
  • Physical Demands: Ability to move about the facility, handle equipment, tolerate chemical exposure, and lift or carry light to medium weights.
