This role is designated as essential and requires incumbents to report to work onsite. Telecommuting is not available for this role.

JOB PURPOSE:

Under limited supervision, perform moderately complex technical work in a wide range of environmental, health, and safety disciplines to ensure a safe environment and to achieve compliance with the university's environmental, health, and safety standards and governmental regulatory requirements.

CORE DUTIES:

  1. Develop, implement, and maintain programs, systems, and procedures necessary to ensure the overall safety and health of the community.
  2. Identify, assess, and monitor facility hazards (including but not limited to, chemical, physical, biological, and radiological) that could be present; remediate hazards, and/or recommend improvements to minimize hazard potential.
  3. Investigate accidents, incidents, injuries, and complaints concerning potential hazards or unsafe conditions.
  4. Recommend improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment to minimize hazard potential.
  5. Review, analyze, recommend work practices, and prepare reports/actions plan.
  6. Provide technical advice and university interpretation of various government regulations and university policies; maintain working knowledge of specific government regulations.
  7. Provide oversight to third-party vendors performing relevant services, such as pest control.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in arts/science in related allied/scientific field and three years progressively responsible experience in occupational safety and health, emergency response/management, environmental science, and/or allied/scientific field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Demonstrated ability to conduct effective health and safety surveys, quantitative and qualitative exposure/risk assessments, and data analyses; ability to provide recommendations for exposure/risk control.
  2. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with diverse audiences; ability to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  3. Ability to maintain current knowledge of and interpret specific government agency requirements (statutes, regulations, licenses, and permits) and university policies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

Frequently stand, sit, and perform desk-based computer tasks. Occasionally use a telephone, write by hand. Rarely kneel, crawl, climb ladders, reach/work above shoulder, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, write by hand, sort and file paperwork or parts, operate foot and/or hand controls, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh 40 pounds or more.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must wear personal protective equipment to address noise, allergens, and low-level biohazard/chemicals or other tasks as defined/required by job assignments.

WORK STANDARDS:

When conducting university business, must comply with the California Vehicle Code and Stanford University driving requirements.

The expected pay range for this position is $105K to $112K per annum or ( $50.48-$53.85 / hour)
