The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia (UVA Health) seeks a Healthcare Unit Coordinator for the 5 South unit in Charlottesville. The role acts as the central communications hub, coordinating admissions, discharges, transfers, and patient movement while supporting nursing and support staff to ensure smooth operations.

You will manage phone calls, maintain logs and EMR workflows, track patient locations, and assist with staffing and safety initiatives.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.
• Experience: No experience required.
• Licensure: None

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact for the nursing unit and welcome patients, families, visitors, and staff.
• Manage incoming phone calls and coordinate communication among interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Support admissions, discharges, transfers, and patient transportation activities.
• Track patient locations, room assignments, and movement throughout the unit.
• Maintain unit logs, operational documentation, checklists, and EMR workflows.
• Coordinate equipment repairs, maintenance requests, and supply needs with hospital support departments.
• Assist with staffing and assignment coordination while maintaining communication boards.
• Support infection prevention and patient safety initiatives through accurate communication of precautions.
• Help facilitate smooth operations during routine activities as well as urgent/high-pressure situations.
