Job summary

SEIU Healthcare Michigan is seeking a Research Analyst to provide research support for campaigns aimed at expanding union membership through elections, card check, recognition, or other methods. The analyst will study healthcare employers, industries, and policy contexts to advance organizing goals.

The role reports to the External Organizing Director and requires strong Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills, plus the ability to conduct desk and field research, interviews, surveys, and data

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year experience as a researcher for a labor union or organization.
• Strong commitment to social, economic, and racial justice.
• Experience supporting corporate accountability campaigns preferred.
• Economics, financial analysis, or public policy coursework preferred.
• Ability to learn deep analyses of healthcare employer finances and business models.
• Understanding of outpatient healthcare industry growth preferred.
• Knowledge of healthcare/public sector preferred; knowledge of NLRB, MERC, elections/card procedures preferred.
• Willingness to work long and irregular hours.
• Proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint plus internet/database research skills.
• Desire to be part of a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

• Compiles, analyzes, summarizes, and presents information on industries, companies, individuals, and issues in support of SEIU Healthcare Michigan’s program.
• Gathers information through desk research as well as field research, including engaging with members and soon to be members, site visits, interviews, surveys, networking, attending public meetings and industry events, and more.
• Collaborates with field team extensively and creatively.
• Be part of an incredible team building union density and power with a focus on corporate accountability.
• Synthesizes relevant facts from a large amount of information.
• Develops and implements a weekly work plan; meets deadlines.
• Learns new skills and areas of expertise.
• Performs other duties as required to support the union and its mission.
