Overview

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Health Care Technician (HCT) supports licensed nursing staff by performing activities related to the personal care and hygiene needs of assigned patients. The HCT facilitates communication with other departments, visitors, patients, medical staff, and employees. They serve as a public relations liaison for the unit and work under the direct supervision of the nursing manager.

Qualifications

• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
• Education: H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
• Work Experience: Must have worked as a CNA within the past 24 months, completed Carle's HCT In-Training Program, relevant medical military training, CNA coursework within the past 24 months, or hold a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification. At least one semester of nursing clinical experience or Certified Medical Assistant certification at Carle Health is also acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintaining unit supplies, including stocking nurse servers, cleaning instruments and equipment, ordering supplies, and updating charts.
• Collect data on assigned patients as directed by the RN and ensure accurate documentation.
• Demonstrate competency in psychomotor skills such as measuring vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, and recording intake and output.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and prepare them for transportation.
• Monitor equipment daily, including glucose monitors and iStat devices.
• Provide hands-on patient care under RN supervision, including tasks like emptying Foley catheters and drains, and assisting with repositioning and transportation of patients.
• Stock bays, order supplies, and ensure cleanliness, including cleaning monitors and cables after patient use.

Compensation and Benefits
