Overview

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Health Care Technician (HCT) supports licensed nursing staff by performing activities related to the personal care and hygiene needs of assigned patients. The HCT facilitates communication with departments, visitors, patients, medical staff, and employees, serving as a public relations liaison for the unit. This role works under the direct supervision of the nursing manager.

Qualifications
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Education: High School Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Work Experience: Relevant medical military training; Completion of CNA coursework within past 24 months; Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA); At least one semester of nursing clinical experience; Certified Medical Assistant at Carle Health; Worked as CNA within past 24 months; Successful completion of Carle's HCT In Training Program
Responsibilities
  • Assist with maintaining unit supplies, including stocking nurse servers, cleaning instruments and equipment, ordering supplies, and making up charts.
  • Collect data on assigned patients as directed by RN and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Demonstrate competency in skills such as vital signs measurement, blood glucose monitoring, and recording intake and output.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living and prepare them for transportation.
  • Complete HCT Safety Checklist at each shift's start.
  • Receive delegated responsibilities from RN and maintain communication regarding task completion.
  • Perform basic patient care independently, including baths, vital signs, accuchecks, and meal trays.
  • Prioritize patient safety, adhering to safety measures like fall precautions and pressure ulcer prevention.
  • Facilitate patient admissions and discharges, especially for Observation patients.
  • Promptly answer patient call lights to ensure effective triage and meet patient needs.
  • Maintain a positive attitude to promote a healthy work and healing environment.

Compensation and Benefits
