The role of a Healthcare Support Worker is a very privileged role. As a HCSW you will provide personal care and support to patients at their most vulnerable times. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to provide a compassionate, caring and safe environment for our patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Support the Nursing team to provide a high standard of patient centred care
  • Assist in the efficient running of the ward
  • Provide personal care duties, e.g.: toileting, washing, feeding.
  • Take observations on stable patients (as delegated by registered nurse)
  • Ensure that the people using our services have a good experience
  • Respect, empower and work in partnership to contribute to care plans
  • Show compassion and contribute to a caring and kind environment
  • Recognise that what you do and say helps to make the lives of others better
  • Communicate with a multidisciplinary team including handovers
  • Speak with a wide variety of people face to face and by phone
  • Maintain accurate records in a timely manner – both electronically and write
  • Talk to people about sensitive issues in a supportive manner
  • Challenge others assertively where necessary
  • Work to Trust policies and procedures.
  • Participate in discussions on proposed changes to ward procedures.
  • Escalate safety concerns and act as an effective advocate for service users
  • May be required to handle patient’s valuables and cash.
  • Responsible for ensuring adequate stock levels in ward areas and ordering supplies,
  • Undertakes careful use of ward equipment.
  • Ensure adequate orientation to unfamiliar working environments.
  • Take part in audits and surveys
  • Complete mandatory training (outlined in full in job description

  • Evidence of good communication skills.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
  • Maths - Evidence of education to GCSE level or equivalent
  • English Language - Evidence of education to GCSE level or equivalent
  • NVQ Level 2 in Health Care or related field
  • Completion of the Care Certificate
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
  • Customer Service Experience
  • Previous experience within a healthcare setting either in Nursing Home experience or Acute Hospital experience.
