Position: Healthcare Simulation Operator Location: Bethesda, MD-Onsite Only Operational Hours: Not to exceed 8-10 hours per day Salary Range: $35,000-$75,000 Summary Setup and Breakdown: Prepare and break down simulation training environments for each scheduled event. This includes arranging the physical space, positioning manikins, setting up task trainers, and ensuring all required medical props and supplies are present and functional. The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Simulation Center provides state-of-the-art medical training for service members to enhance clinical skills, improve patient safety, and increase medical readiness. The center utilizes a multi-modal approach to deliver realistic and immersive learning experiences. This Performance Work Statement (PWS) outlines the duties and responsibilities for the Healthcare Simulation Operator who will provide technical and operational support for the center's training activities. Technology Preparation Configure and test all simulation modalities prior to the start of a training event. This includes, but is not limited to: * High-technology manikins and their associated operating systems. * Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) headsets and software. * Audio/visual recording and debriefing systems. * Immersive room environmental controls (lighting, sound, and visual projections). Work Environment The primary work environment is a climate-controlled, office-type setting within the simulation center. However, support for training may require work in austere or simulated extreme conditions, including outdoor scenarios, confined spaces, or environments with simulated smoke and loud noises. Physical Requirements The position requires physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting. The contractor must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs unassisted and participate in two-person lifts of up to 150 lbs for the movement and positioning of manikins and equipment. Emergency Services On occasion, services may be required to support an activation or exercise of contingency plans outside the normal duty hours. Simulation Event Support Setup and Breakdown: Prepare and break down simulation training environments for each scheduled event. This includes arranging the physical space, positioning manikins, setting up task trainers, and ensuring all required medical props and supplies are present and functional. Technology Preparation: Configure and test all simulation modalities prior to the start of a training event. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • High-technology manikins and their associated operating systems.
  • Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) headsets and software.
  • Audio/visual recording and debriefing systems.
  • Immersive room environmental controls (lighting, sound, and visual projections).
  • Event Operation: Operate simulation technologies during training scenarios. This involves:
  • Programming and running manikin physiological responses in accordance with scenario scripts and instructor guidance.
  • Activating and managing AR/VR scenarios.
  • Controlling the immersive room experience to match the training objectives.
  • Playing the role of confederates (e.g., voice of the patient, lab technician) as required.
  • Standardized Patients (SP) Support: Assist with the technical aspects of SP-based encounters, such as managing recording equipment and ensuring a smooth flow for learners.
  • Equipment and Technology Management
  • Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on all simulation equipment to ensure operational readiness and longevity. This includes cleaning, software updates, calibration, and battery management for manikins, trainers, and VR/AR systems.
  • Troubleshooting: Provide first-line troubleshooting and technical support for all simulation equipment and software. Identify, diagnose, and resolve hardware and software issues promptly to minimize training downtime. Escalate complex issues to the manufacturer or IT support as needed.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain an accurate inventory of all simulation equipment, supplies, and consumables. Monitor stock levels and provide reports to the center leadership for reordering.
  • Data and Administrative Support
  • Data Input: Accurately capture and input training data as required. This may include learner attendance, performance checklists, and scenario-specific metrics into the designated data management system.
  • System Operation: Operate the simulation center's management system for scheduling, recording, and reporting purposes.
  • Documentation: Maintain logs of all maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities for all equipment.
  • Qualifications The candidate assigned to this contract shall meet the following minimum qualifications
  • Experience Requirement: The contractor must satisfy at least one of the following criteria:
  • Clinical Background: Minimum 1-year clinical experience or possess a valid certification or license, or have documented military training, in a clinical healthcare role. Acceptable roles include but are not limited to: Military Medic (e.g., Army 68W, Navy Corpsman, Air Force 4N0X1), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Paramedic, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
  • Simulation Experience: Possess at least one (1) year of experience working as a simulation operator in a healthcare simulation center.
  • Ideal Candidate: Candidates who possess both a clinical background and healthcare simulation experience are considered ideal and will be prioritized.
  • Technical Proficiency: Must demonstrate proficiency with computer hardware and software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Certifications: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
