Job summary

Sturdy Memorial Hospital is seeking a part-time Security Officer to safeguard patients, visitors, staff, and property. You will conduct patrols, respond to incidents, manage access control, and coordinate with clinical staff and first responders in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

The role requires a high school diploma, security experience, and relevant certifications; strong communication and calm decision-making are essential to deliver safe, patient-centered service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior security, law enforcement, military, or hospital security experience preferred.
• Healthcare or behavioral health security experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety and security throughout hospital buildings, grounds, and parking areas.
• Conduct routine and random patrols to deter and detect unsafe or suspicious activity.
• Respond promptly to security incidents, alarms, emergencies, and requests for assistance.
• De-escalate disruptive situations involving patients, visitors, or staff using approved techniques.
• Assist with behavioral health or combative patient situations in accordance with hospital policy and training.
• Control access to restricted areas and verify identification as required.
• Monitor security systems, including cameras, alarms, and access control systems.
• Provide assistance, directions, and customer service to patients and visitors in a professional manner.
• Accurately document incidents, observations, and actions taken in written reports.
• Support emergency response activities, including fire alarms, evacuations, medical emergencies, and disaster situations.
• Collaborate with hospital leadership, clinical staff, and local law enforcement as needed.
• Comply with hospital policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in required training, drills, and continuing education.
