Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Registration as a NYS Security Guard is required at appointment and throughout employment.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required before end of probationary period.
• Completion of BEWD safety program within three months of appointment and annual retraining.

Responsibilities

• Observe individuals on campus to enforce safety policies.
• Assist clinical staff in maintaining a therapeutic environment and intervene to prevent injuries.
• Identify safety violations, de-escalate where possible, and take appropriate action.
• Escort disorderly persons from premises and assist in searches in Behavioral Health areas.
• Participate in fire drills, alarm testing and emergency management exercises.
• Respond to emergencies and conduct fire equipment inspections.
• Investigate incidents and prepare initial reports.
