Job summary

Contentnea Health in eastern North Carolina seeks a diligent Medical Billing Specialist to submit claims for medical, behavioral health and dental services and to ensure timely payments from multiple payers.

You will research denials and errors, apply discounts and adjustments, resubmit claims, and follow up with payers via portals, email or phone. You’ll also post payments, maintain documentation, and provide responsive billing-related customer service to internal and external customers.

Qualifications

• Certificate program in billing practices (up to 1 year).
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology and coding.
• Familiarity with insurance policies and contracts for multiple vendors.
• Current CH-CBS certification or eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Submits claims for medical, behavioral health and dental services.
• Researches, corrects and resubmits denials and errors.
• Applies discounts and adjustments and resubmits as needed.
• Follows up with payers via portals, email or phone to resolve issues.
• Posts third party payments accurately to charges.
• Identifies and flags bad debt for write-off when appropriate.
• Provides customer service to internal and external customers.
• Maintains billing documents in the internal data repository.
