Job summary

Lutheran Downtown Hospital, part of Lutheran Health Network, seeks a Chief Operating Officer to lead non-nursing operations, drive efficiency, and shape strategic plans across departments. This role collaborates with the CEO and CFO to ensure financial sustainability and exceptional patient care.

You will oversee service-line development, resource utilization, and operational excellence while mentoring leaders and contributing to budgeting and capital planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
• MBA/MHA or related master’s degree preferred.
• 7–9 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience, including 3–5 years in operational or executive-level management roles.
• Experience overseeing multiple hospital departments or service lines preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee non-nursing departments to ensure high-quality service, efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
• Collaborate with CEO and CFO to develop, monitor strategic plans and financial goals.
• Lead process-improvement initiatives to boost patient throughput, resource utilization and outcomes.
• Identify opportunities for business development, service-line expansion and physician recruitment.
• Support medical staff relations and physician engagement.
• Review department-level performance and collaborate on corrective action plans and continuous improvement.
• Coach and mentor leaders to build capacity and share best practices.
• Contribute to budgeting and capital planning to align with strategic priorities.
• Ensure compliance with policies, regulations and accreditation standards.
• Participate in executive leadership meetings and board presentations.
