Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Sheridan VA Health Care System seeks a Laundry Machine Operator to manage the full range of commercial laundry duties in the Sheridan facility and its Billings CBOC.

The role emphasizes infection control, proper sorting, and operation of industrial washers/dryers. Work is performed in the Laundry Section of Environmental Management - Facilities Management Service with a Monday–Friday, 7:00 am–3:30 pm schedule.

Qualifications

• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods on concrete or hard surfaces.
• Must be able to lift and move heavy textiles (>50 pounds) and operate loading/unloading tasks.
• Work in an industrial healthcare laundry environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, and cleaning agents.

Responsibilities

• Receive soiled textiles and ensure separation from clean areas.
• Sort textiles by fabric type, soil level, and processing requirements.
• Operate multiple commercial washers and dryers; select appropriate wash programs.
• Monitor wash formulas, change chemicals as required, and follow SDS and safety rules.
• Inspect textiles for quality, reprocess or remove items as needed.
• Assist with folding, stacking, and preparing clean textiles for distribution.
