Job summary

Riverside Smithfield Hospital in Smithfield, VA is seeking a Food Service Aide to support the Food & Nutrition Department. You will prepare hot and cold menu items for patients and guests, follow recipes, and ensure proper portion control and timely delivery to trays and cafeteria lines.

The role requires knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and allergy guidelines. Shifts are 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM, weekdays and every other weekend, with opportunities to grow as you gain experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 1 year food preparation experience in a high-volume setting preferred.
• Allergen Awareness Certification - VA State - ANSI-approved within 180 Days (Required)
• Food Handlers Card (FH) - VA State - ANSI-approved within 30 Days (Required) or Food Protection Manager - VA State (Required)

Responsibilities

• Prepare food items for patient and non-patient food services following recipes and cooking instructions.
• Maintain knowledge of food safety, infection control and sanitation requirements.
• Ensure proper temperatures, quality, sanitation and storage at all steps.
• Provide information to ensure positive patient/customer outcomes and memorable dining experience.
• Support team with positive interaction and timely, accurate meal service.
• Follow therapeutic menus and allergy guidelines to ensure safe patient care.
• Prepare special request food items as necessary.
• Complete prep work: slicing deli meat, chopping vegetables, salads, sandwiches, grill and pizza prep.
• Serve on patient tray line and cafeteria line with proper portion control.
• Demonstrate knowledge of weights and volume measurements; use equipment correctly.
• Clean and sanitize equipment and work areas.
