Job summary

UC San Diego Health seeks an Assistant Fire Marshal to provide technical authority on fire and life safety for hospitals, clinics, and labs. Under the Lead Designated Campus Fire Marshal, you will review plans, enforce CCR Titles 19 and 24, NFPA codes, and coordinate OSFM requirements.

This 100% appointment requires extensive experience, working with regulators and local authorities, and leading fire drills and training across shifts at UCSD Health facilities in San Diego.

Qualifications

• Nine years of progressively responsible experience in fire prevention, plan review, and code enforcement, with healthcare or institutional focus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field plus five years of related experience/training.
• Experience in fire prevention in public fire prevention bureaus or private industry preferred (5+ years).
• DCFM authority must be attained within 6–12 months of appointment.
• OSFM Fire Inspector II and Fire Plans Examiner credentials.
• Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and standards.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct technical plan reviews of healthcare facility construction and fire protection systems.
• Direct and perform field inspections of new construction and modifications.
• Plan, schedule, and conduct hospital fire and evacuation drills; deliver training in fire prevention.
• Inspect facilities for Title 19 compliance.
• Manage hospital fire drills across varied clinical shifts and occupancies.
• Act as DCFM on behalf of UCSD Health after OSFM approval.
